JOIN US: Friday, January 8, 2010 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
@ AFSCME Council 75 1400 Tandem Ave NE Salem, OR Two difficult conversations now dominate politics and the media: how to end the current deep economic recession, and how to cope with the negative economic and environmental effects of impending climate change.
Join us to discuss this issue! Topics to be covered include: - What is the cost of “business as usual” – not acting on climate change – to Oregon’s agriculture, industry and the economy as a whole?
- What policies will be most effective in solving the problem of global warming while maintaining our members’ jobs and our communities?
- What about the heralded “Green Jobs” boom? What can we do to make sure that green jobs are good, union jobs? How can we work in coalition with allies in the community around our common interests in a healthy environment and good jobs?
- What can we do in our workplaces and local unions to promote and negotiate sustainable practices that improve the quality of the environment and our lives?
Added bonus! Hear Bob Doppelt, Director of the Climate Leadership Institute at the University of Oregon, and Barbara Byrd, LERC instructor and Secretary-Treasurer of the Oregon AFL-CIO talk about their recent trip to Copenhagen for the UN Climate Change Conference! For more information, or to register for the workshop call the Eugene LERC office at 541-346-5054 or the Portland office, 503-412-3721; or e-mail jjsmith@uoregon.edu
