LMC Charter is Established

The newly-formed OHSU/AFSCME Labor Management Committee has gotten off to a great start, and we want to provide a brief update on their progress to date.

The members completed comprehensive training on an interest-based approach to problem-solving and decision-making, with an emphasis on building a labor management partnership. The group then applied this training in developing four components essential to the structure of the LMC: a mission statement, “norms” or values that characterize the group, meeting roles and structure, and a decision-making process. These components are outlined on the group’s charter, which is attached below and will also be posted on the LMC web site. 

The LMC will be tackling some difficult, complex decisions related to prioritizing and allocating resources to improve the workplace. Establishing a formal charter gives the members a solid foundation to guide them in their work going forward.

Our meetings to date have also allowed the group to get to know each other and begin to form as a cohesive unit. We have been extremely pleased with the level of engagement and enthusiasm the members have shown and are confident this group will do great work.

Over the next month, the LMC members will begin to review the structure and resources of current labor-management programs at OHSU and evaluate a variety of needs assessment data to determine where the group will focus its efforts.
