The LMC Steering Committee is making good progress in the formation of the Labor Management Committee (LMC), the joint OHSU/AFSCME initiative to create and sustain a positive work environment where employees and OHSU can excel. Below is an update in several areas: Selection of the LMC Members Thank you to those of you who submitted applications for membership in the LMC. We were incredibly pleased with the number and caliber of applicants. We received applications from 21 managers and from 23 AFSCME-represented employees, so the process of selecting 6 from each pool has been very thorough. We are now in the final stages of selection and expect to notify all applicants of the outcome by early March. Although these are challenging decisions, it is exciting to know we will have a highly qualified, engaged group to begin the important work of the LMC.
Consultant Services Simultaneous with the selection of LMC members, our committee undertook a process to select a consultant to guide the LMC through its start-up phase. We have recently retained Barber and Gonzales Consulting Group, an organization specializing in Labor Management partnerships. Their consultant will lead comprehensive training for the LMC members beginning in March and guide the development of the group’s charter and an initial needs assessment.
Upcoming Training Classes The Labor Management Committee Center (LMCC) is now offering quarterly training courses – redesigned to address the workforce skills believed to be most essential at OHSU. Spaces are still available in the following classes:
Project Management Basics (Parts 1 and 2), March 3 and 16, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Learn the basics of project management in a two-part course. Includes an introduction to basic principles of project planning and provides concrete tools for project implementation.
Career Advancement Planning, March 4, 4:30 – 7 p.m.; March 18, 2 - 4:30 p.m. Recommended as essential for all OHSU employees. Participants will create an Individual Development Plan and identify resources and tools for development. Upon completion, employees are eligible for 1:1 career coaching.
Go to TrainingForce to register and to view additional dates these classes are offered.
These training services will continue to evolve to align with needs identified by the LMC as it becomes fully functional.
Thank you, The LMC Steering Committee Priscilla Andres, Director, Healthcare HR Kate Baker, AFSCME Staff Representative Joni Elsenpeter, Sr. HR Manager, Central Services Diane Lovell, AFSCME Staff Representative Linda Strahm, Director, Academics HR Frank Vehafric, AFSCME Staff Representative
