If you work in Animal Handling, check out the guides attached to the bottom of this page. The central goal of creating the Career Pathway Guides (or Career Mapping) is to help retain, develop, and promote the best AFSCME-represented staff from within OHSU.
Catherine Jessup, the Career Counselor in the OHSU/AFSCME Labor Management Committee Center (formerly the Career Development Center), is the main person who will support you when using these charts. However, the Guides are also designed with hopes that you and your managers will find them useful during the “Annual Development Planning Process.” They may help you see options and consider what education and experience you can focus on developing in the coming year.
The documents can be useful for general reference in print form, but are most helpful when viewed electronically. Active links in the footer connect to OHSU’s Class Specifications which include education & experience requirements for all the jobs in the “Sample Next OHSU Jobs” column. To access this information, simply click on the link at the bottom of the Career Pathways Guide’s page: (1) OHSU Class Specifications on O-ZONE, next select an OHSU Class Specification, and click “Open” to view details.
Also, the footer has a link to the Statewide (OLMIS) career resource website which is an excellent resource to help people find training & licensing links, extensive details about employment & salary trends, and skill requirements for different career paths of interest.
For use online, these resources require some familiarity with navigating the internet, so you may consider referring staff to the OHSU/AFSCME Labor Management Committee Center’s Career Counseling and Computer Lab for support.
